AVIATION INSTRUCTOR

Reports to: Club Director

General Function:
The Aviation Instructor will manage all activities associated with the Aviation program. This includes, but is not limited to, planning, and conducting classes for 9th grader and higher, with the goal of introducing the field of Aviation to the Club members. Duties include coordinating field trips, and other duties as assigned. This is a part-time position three days per week two-hour sessions. Classes will be held between the hours of 4:30pm-6:30pm. Salary for this position is $25-$30 per hour.

Duties and Performance

  • Aviation Instructor reports directly to Club Director and is responsible for maintaining and submitting weekly reports to Club Director/Director of Teen Initiatives
  • Aviation Instructor will work with youths, designing and implementing programs emphasizing Aeronautics, flight simulation, airport operations, communication systems, rocketry, educational field trips and community service projects and more.
  • Program continuation is contingent on fund-raising efforts set forth by Aviation Instructor.
  • Population group will consist of at-risk youths of Fort Lauderdale; 9th grade and higher.
  • Classroom ratio is approximately 14 students per instructor.
  • May be asked to assist in other areas of the Club in emergency situations.
 

Classroom Management:

  • Promote and stimulate interest in the Aviation program
  • Plan and conduct classes, with written weekly plans due every Monday.
  • Create class schedules and revises curriculum.
  • Recruit youth for classes.
  • Educate parents about classes.
  • Requisition and secure classroom materials.
  • Secure Guest speakers for special events
  • Coordinate field trips related to Aviation
  • Enforce Boys & Girls Club rules.
  • Ensure that facilities, equipment, and supplies are given proper care and maintenance.
  • Participate in staff conferences and meetings/workshops.
 

Qualifications

  • College credits required, related bachelor’s degree a plus.
  • Experience in the Aviation/Aerospace industry.
  • Requires high energy level; endurance and patience, comfortable performing multi-faceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities.
  • Must possess the ability to get along with diverse personalities at all times displaying tact, maturity, flexibility and professionalism, good reasoning abilities and sound judgment.
  • Superior interpersonal abilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The duties above indicate the essential functions of the job. Manage multiple tasks with varying deadlines. Successfully communicate through speaking, writing and reading with comprehension. Must be comfortable working with different personalities in an informal environment. Some local travel required. The majority of work will be conducted in an office setting; however, various offsite meetings may occur at respective Boys & Girls Clubs or offices.

Position requirements include:

  • Walking–throughout office and at other activities, required to walk (up to 1 hour) as needed
  • Talking – constantly required to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word
  • Hearing – frequently required to work in a variety of environments
  • Sight – position requires both close and distance visual acuity for computer work and interacting with staff and guests
  • Standing – occasionally required to stand for sustained periods of time (related to events.)
  • Sitting – occasionally required to sit for up to 2 hours
  • Bending /squatting– occasionally required to bend (picking items up off of the floor, filing)
  • Use hands/fingers to handle or feel – occasionally required to type for extended periods of time (entering payments, answering emails, writing reports, etc .)
  • Lifting – occasionally required to lift/move items up to 20 pounds.
  • Skills essential for successful communication include speaking and writing.
  • Worker will be subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions.
