2019 YOUTH OF THE YEAR

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County and Dale Carnegie of South Florida hosted two High Impact Presentation workshops for 22 Club members, who were Youth of the Year and Alternate Youth of the Year candidates on Saturday, January 12 and Saturday, January 19, 2019.  The presenter, Lloyd Braithwaite, Director of Leadership and Organizational Development at Jackson Health and a seasoned Dale Carnegie facilitator, helped Club members work on their public speaking and interpersonal communications skills by showing them how to plant their feet, use strong posture and share their Boys & Girls Clubs story with power and conviction.

The Youth of the Year competition took place on Monday, February 18 at our Administrative Office.   Each youth gave a 2 – 3 minute speech about their Boys & Girls Clubs experience in front of a panel of five esteemed judges. Alexus M. from the Lester H. White Club was crowned winner and will be the youth voice for all of Broward County and represent our organization at the State competition in April.  The second place winner is Taquajah P. from the Dr. Harold Reitman Club and third place winner is Adriana R. from the Rick & Rita Case Club.

Thank you to all of our youth who participated in the competition and to the five judges who gave their time to be a part of this annual event.  Judges were:  Ryan Seymour, Best Buy;  Julie Anderson, Sun Sentinel;  Brian Quail, President/CEO, BGCBC;  Elisabeth DeLuca, The Frederick A. DeLuca Foundation; Stephan Mehallis, The Harry T. Mangurian Jr. Foundation, Inc.
