CAREER EXPLORATION PROGRAMS

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County provides numerous programs that help club members learn about different career fields,
gain valuable business skills and develop positive team habits.

The following programs are housed at selected Boys & Girls Clubs throughout Broward County:

THE IONOSPHERE/AVIATION CLUB

NAN KNOX CLUB

The Ionosphere/Aviation program teaches club members at the Nan Knox Club ages 10+ about aerodynamics and how to develop a career in aviation.

GENERALS CLUB CONSTRUCTION

ALL CLUBS

The Generals Club Construction Program exposes teen club members to a career in the construction trade. Club members attend monthly showcases highlighting careers in crane operation, plumbing, roofing, general constructing and project management.

Club members also participate in the Annual Generals Construction Career Day. During this event, 22 construction representatives lead hands-on activities with the teen Club members. The featured trades include painting, flooring, steel construction, welding, and more!

The participating construction companies offer interested teens and alumni, internships and full-time jobs in the construction field. The teens and alumni are able to gain valuable work experience in the following fields: electrical, air conditioning, general contracting, plumbing and crane operation.

ANNUAL CAREER DAY

ALL CLUBS

The Annual Career Day at American Heritage School provides Club members the opportunity to explore different careers including accounting, entrepreneurship, marketing, aviation, automotive, medicine, real estate and more!

Over 240 teens attend the career day event to gain exposure to numerous career avenues. Some of the notable companies/executives who have been involved include:

  • JetBlue executives from their corporate office, flight attendants and pilots (Aviation)
  • American Heritage School counselors discussing how to prepare for college (College Prep)
  • Johnny Williams, ProMotion Sports & Entertainment (Sports Entertainment)
  • Ralph Stringer, Dan Marino’s Marketing Agent (Sports Agent)
  • Brian Tuffin, BTUFF Capital Ventures & Consulting (Venture Capitalist)

CULINARY ARTS

LEO GOODWIN TEEN CENTER

The club members at the Leo Goodwin Teen Center attend monthly workshops to learn how to prepare nutritious meals. They also have the opportunity to earn Safe Staff Certifications – acknowledging they are educated on how to handle food safely and can properly sanitize their work space area.

RECORDING STUDIO/ MULTIMEDIA PRODUCTION

LEO GOODWIN TEEN CENTER, JM FAMILY TEEN CENTER, & LESTER H. WHITE CLUB

The Teen Club members at the Leo Goodwin Teen Center, JM Family Teen Center and Lester H. White club learn how to produce songs, beats, podcasts, commercials, voiceovers and also how to navigate video production. In this program, Club members gain knowledge on using soundboards, video cameras, and many other studio equipment.
