Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County

June 17, 1965
Boys Clubs of Broward County receive its charter from Boys Clubs of America. Harry Greep and Bettie Landrum join as President and Vice President respectively, and the Articles of Incorporation are prepared. Hugh Anderson locates the sites for the first Clubs.

March 1966
Southwest Boys Clubs opens as the first site for Boys Club of Broward County, with Sam Monroe as Director.

October 6, 1968
Northwest Club opens,
now known as Nan Knox Club, with Jim Hill as Director.

1976
Our third Club, Thomas D. Stephanis Club, opens its doors. David Hughes serves as Director.

1989
Boys Clubs of America
becomes Boys & Girls
Clubs of America.

1993
Lauderhill Club, the
first county Club, opens,
with Miss B.J. Smith as
Director.

2004
Cathy Donnelly partners with the Daily Bread Food Bank to start the nutritious K.I.S.S. Program (Keep it Simple Snacks) for kids at Florence A. De George Club. K.I.S.S. later expands to all Clubs.

2006
The Generals’ Club-consisting of contractors, architects, developers and more-launches, co-chaired by Tom Miller, Terry Stiles, and Itchko Ezratti. The group prepares teens for work in the building trades.

April 11, 2024
Fred DeLuca Teen Center
opens in Fort Lauderdale, with a state-of-the-art media lab and laptops for teen programming.

June 20, 2024
Gary Wendt Teen Center
opens in Sunrise, marking the organization’s first expansion into a new city in over 20 years.

August 14, 2025
Hierholzer Teen Center
opens in Pompano Beach, supporting the teens of
Thomas D. Stephanis Club.
