YOUTH DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR

REPORTS TO: Club Director or Program Manager

GENERAL FUNCTION:
The Youth Development Coordinator reports directly to the Club Director or Program Manager. His/her areas of responsibility are centered around specific program components as indicated in the job description and the position may be flexible to assist at multiple sites as needed.

TECHNICAL:

  • – Ability to interpret goals and objectives of the Boys & Girls Clubs.
  • – Ability to plan, publicize, organize, and conduct recreational activities, tournaments, games, leagues, and special events, etc.
  • – Ability to prepare written plans for program activities including goals, mechanics, needs, and cost projections.
  • – Possess knowledge of child development stages and their relations to programming.

MANAGERIAL:

  • – Ability to supervise, train, and motivate staff and volunteers in your department.
  • – Ability to utilize program evaluation and activity forms. Provide leadership in the development of new programs. Ability to plan, delegate, and follow-up on projects.
  • – Possess ability to think creatively in the development and implementation of new programs.
  • – Stimulate interest and participation in community and cultural events.
  • – Assist in staff training if requested to do so.
  • – Recommend and requisition supplies for areas of responsibility.
  • – Assist in special projects as the need arises.
  • – Manage all grants and deliverables relevant to the club.
    – Supports Club Director in implementing all areas relevant to the 3 core program areas


HUMAN RELATIONS:

  • – Ability to counsel and discipline members.
  • – Ability to maintain effective control of building and grounds.
  • – Ability to relate to the Community, Board, Parents, and Members.
  • – Ability to instill enthusiasm and good character traits in the members.
  • – Ability to work productively with supervisor and subordinates.


JOB SEGMENTS:

  • – Assist Club Director and Program Manager in planning and organizing the programs of the Club.
  • – Making periodic reports to the Club Director.
  • – Maintaining Bulletin Board for areas responsible for and posting general health and hygiene-related information.
  • – Stimulate interest and participation in Community events.
  • – Assume management of facility in the absence of the Club Director and Program Manager. (as directed)
  • – Assist in special projects as the need arises. (i.e., fundraising, Summer session, and other organizational Special Events).


SPECIFIC AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY FOR SUPERVISION AND DEVELOPMENT:

  1. Plan, organize, publicize, and conduct programs in all areas of the facility to include Games room, Library, Arts & Crafts, Computer Room, or Physical Ed. Department, Art Room.
  2. Organize educational/cultural/recreational and social special events.
  3. Provide continuous contact with parents and local schools, if requested to do so.
  4. Organize and conduct scheduled skill clinics for billiards, table tennis, and other major sports.
  5. Conduct rules clinics for other club staff and members, on various recreational games.
  6. Develop at least 5 programs for teenagers and pre-teenagers from Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
  7. Ability to organize and supervise all recreational activities. Including outside activities.
  8. Plan, promote, and conduct a college for a day program with local colleges and universities.
  9. Assist with the Boys & Girls Clubs Summer Program (Planning and implementation).
  10. Maintain accurate program records and make sure monthly statistical records are given to supervisor.
  11. Assist with the planning, promoting, and conducting of Physical Ed. Department Special Events.
  12. Assist with all Grant funded programs and deliverables.
  13. Assist with other Boys & Girls Club activities/special events if requested to do so. Implement the Performing Arts Program.


In addition to the specific professional job duties the Youth Development Coordinator must also possess the ability to:

  • Access facility needs and perform janitorial duties, mopping, cleaning walls, bathrooms, etc.
  • Perform minor maintenance.
  • Move throughout activity area without disrupting youth traffic flow and activities.
  • Recognize and react quickly to problems, challenges and quickly stop undesirable activity.
  • Assist children with homework.
  • Work in any department within the Club on an emergency basis, especially the game room at an acceptable performance level to maintain a safe environment.
  • Drive organization vehicles, such as 15 passenger vans, buses, etc.
  • Manage Club Finances to understand and work within department budgets.
  • Take members on field trips and provide direct supervision of assigned members at places like museums, zoos, college visits, etc.
  • Work in non-air conditioned or heated facilities and provide supervision on outdoor playgrounds.
  • Immediately correct safety concerns (e.g., water on floor, equipment not stored correctly, doors left unlocked).
  • Answer telephone and communicate with caller in a professional and effective manner.
  • Pick up needed supplies from stores and bring to Club.
  • Be flexible in traveling to multiple sites as needed.


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • – Four (4) degree from an accredited institution preferred.
  • – A minimum of one year’s experience in a full-time position working with children.
  • – Current commercial driver’s license (CDL) is preferred (or the ability to obtain one within 90 days of employment) as well as maintenance of a safe driving record.
  • – A certificate of First Aid and CPR is required.


PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
High energy level required, must be comfortable performing multi-faceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities. Must possess superior interpersonal abilities; ability to get along with diverse personalities, at all times displaying tact, maturity, flexibility, and professionalism. Good reasoning abilities and sound judgment are also required.

Salary: $40,000 a year plus benefits
