Group Leader

Responsible To: Director of Program Development, Senior Program Supervisor, Program Supervisor, and Club Director

General Function:
Group Leader for the Family Strengthening Program is directly responsible for leading sessions with parents and members at three separate Club locations. Group Leader will identify families and/or children impacted by domestic violence and substance abuse.

 

Job Segments:

  1. Attend and satisfactorily complete mandatory two (2) day training hosted by SFP –certified trainers.
  2. Attend yearly mandatory trainings for duration of program including: trauma-informed care, diversity, bullying, Club safety, and Program Management.
  3. Stimulate interest and participation of members ages 6 – 11 to participate in this program.
  4. Ability to interpret goals and objectives of the Family Strengthening Program.
  5. Prepare lesson plans from the Strengthening Families Curriculum, and establish a reward system.
  6. Possess knowledge of child development stages in relationship to age appropriate behaviors and programming.
  7. Administer pre- and post- tests to participants to assess program outcomes.
  8. Record data from weekly sessions and booster sessions.
  9. Encourage skill building among participants reinforcing positive behavior being modeled to children on a daily basis.
  10. Build parenting skills through group based projects and presentations, coaching and modeling.
  11. Lead Children’s Skills Training, Parent Training, and Family Life Skills Training sessions as assigned.
  12. Maintain discipline and adherence to BGCBC rules.
  13. Ability to address and de-escalate crises as they arise within the immediate environment.
  14. Ability to document and coordinate services for program participants (Case Management).
  15. Effectively communicate with staff parents, and members.
  16. Participate in graduation event for the participating families.
 
 

Education/Experience:
Case Manager with a minimum of one year experience working with children or families, Bachelor’s degree in related field & Strengthening Families Program (SFP) Group Leader Certification is required. Group Leader must have a background in leading groups of parents and children and must have the ability to conduct sessions in an informal environment. Must have and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License.

 

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • High level of energy, endurance and patience is needed.
  • Comfortable working with different personalities in an informal environment.
  • Good reasoning abilities and sound judgment.
  • Ability to model appropriate behaviors at all times.
  • Ability to address and de-escalate crisis.
 

Physical requirements include sight, hearing, sitting, standing, walking, for over two hours per day. Accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Effect on End Results:
Help children and families develop the proper internal skills for coping with traumatizing or stressful events and reduce the incidence of domestic violence within families.
