ACADEMIC SUCCESS DIRECTOR

Job Description

RESPONSIBLE TO:           Senior Director of Club Operations


GENERAL FUNCTION:    Responsible for the successful implementation of the Academic Success Initiative and the delivery of a broad range of programs within all targeted Clubs. Plans, develops, and oversees implementation and curriculum of grant programs through grant program staff to ensure quality and grant deliverables are met to satisfaction. Responsible for outcomes of several specific priority Club programs with a primary concern for ensuring their impact and success through targeted academic curriculums.

JOB SEGMENTS:

  1. Oversee the provision of day-day program academic activities / programs in accordance with established standards and goals for respective grants Maintain classroom management and classroom materials.

  2. Direct liaison with American Heritage School reps in area of Academic Success.

  3. Oversee prepared lesson plans and parental contacts.

  4. Support Literacy and Youth Development Outcomes through data collection and tracking

  5. Strategize in mobilizing members to attend program classes on a consistent basis.

  6. Maintaining discipline and adherence to BGCBC policies and procedures.

  7. Develop a positive atmosphere among the members toward achieving long term academic and social goals.

  8. Implement and assess the outcome driven programs that support Academic Success.

  9. Ensure all Academic Success program staff are fully trained on specialized curriculums to ensure maximum impact for Club members.

  10. Oversee program delivery, ensure consistency, and strong outcomes across all sites.

  11. Coordinate and attend staff meetings at individual Clubs as needed.

  12. Work with Grant Staff in coordinating development and oversight of said programs as well as managing proper record keeping and reporting procedures.

  13. Increase grade level advancement of Club members and reduce high school dropouts and delinquency.

  14. Work closely with Broward College Recruiter at the JM Family Teen Center.

  15. Maintain close reporting relationship with Club Directors

  16. Main close reporting relationship with the Director of Grant Programs Administration & Compliance, Club Directors VP of Strategy.

  17. Assist senior members with financial aid applications, college applications and FAFSA.

  18. Developing programs matriculating to college.

  19. Working in conjunction with the Boys & Girls Club Teen Workforce Development Team. ( i.e…S.A.T Prep curriculum) 

  20. Coordinate College tours.

  21. Working hours can and will fluctuate between 11am – 7pm, 10am – 6pm, 9am – 5pm or whenever needed.

 

SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college / university or equivalent experience required.

  2. 5 years of experience in the field of education.  I.e.., Teacher, HS or College Guidance Counselor, Admissions Director, etc.

  3. Experience with Boys & Girls Clubs or similar youth serving organizations preferred.

  4. Demonstrated ability regarding program and curriculum development, implementation, assessment, and supervision of staff.

  5. Strong written and verbal skills

  6. Knowledge of youth development best practices

  7. Ability to work during Club hours as needed.

  8. Ability to work effectively with youth, family members, Club staff, organizations, community groups and the public.

  9. Ability to motivate youth and constructively manage behavior challenges.

  10. Working knowledge of budget preparation, control, and management

  11. Ability to obtain CPR and First Aid Certification

  12. Current driver’s license.

  13. Reliable transportation to travel amongst the organization’s different Boys & Girls Clubs in Broward County.

 

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

High level of energy, endurance and patience are required. Comfortable working with different personalities in an informal environment.  Good reasoning abilities and sound judgment.  Ability to always model appropriate behaviors.  Ability to address and de-escalate crisis.  Physical requirements include sight, hearing, sitting for over two hours plus per day.

Completion of program and improve members ability to be prepared for the workplace.

  

Salary:  $70,000 yearly plus benefits
