CDL BUS DRIVER - PART-TIME

CDL Bus Driver Position Type: 
Part-Time, Non-Exempt, 10-12 hrs. per week

Description
Bus drivers are responsible for transporting members from school to the Boys & Girls Club facility. This position provides transportation for after school routes and special events.

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
This position’s primary responsibilities are:
  • Operate vehicles safely and professionally
  • Transport members, following pre-planned routes per a definite time schedule during the school year
  • Drive vehicles carefully and in compliance with traffic regulations
  • Assume responsibility for the safety of children in loading, unloading and while transporting them
  • Instruct members in safety precautions and practices
  • Maintain discipline of passengers; report any unruly behavior to a supervisor
  • Clean bus interior daily
  • Perform daily preventative maintenance checks
  • Keep operational records up to date and report issues to supervisor
  • Participate in Bus safety pre trip inspections

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Attend relevant staff meetings and training events
  • May participate in additional special programs and/or events
  • Evenings/weekend work may be involved
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:
  • Must have a CDL license Class B or above w/ air brake and passenger endorsements and/or be willing to attain CDL within the first 60 days of employment
  • Education – High School diploma or GED
  • Dependable and safe driving history
  • CPR and First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain (Will Train)
  • Ability to pass DCF Level II background screening and drug test

Experience and Qualifications
  • Experience working with or transporting children preferred
  • Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior issues
  • Ability to organize and supervise members while maintaining a safe environment
  • Ability to work with the public
  • Experience driving transit buses is a plus

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position generally works M – F, 1:30PM – 4:30PM; however, may require longer hours outside of this schedule and occasional weekends when necessary for field trips. Work is conducted indoors and outdoors.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift and move equipment up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to hear at a normal conversational level
  • Ability to maintain high energy level when necessary
  • High degree of emotional intelligence
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions—hot, cold, rainy, etc.
