Celebrating Women’s History Month
This year the theme is “Women Educating and Inspiring Generations”. BGCBC honors women’s contributions to history, culture, and society, and encourages the next generation of women to break barriers. We recognize the importance of women from our representation on our Board, in our workplace and to empower our Club members as well.

Ross X BGCBC In-Store Fundraiser
Over the lifetime of our partnership, Ross Stores and the Ross Stores Foundation – together with their generous customers and associates – have contributed more than $50 million in support of Boys & Girls Clubs.
Ross Stores and the Ross Stores Foundation are longtime partners of Boys & Girls Clubs of America and national sponsors of Power Hour, our after-school homework help and learning program. This tutoring program targets members ages 6-18 with a goal to increase academic success to better prepare Club youth to enter the workforce and higher education institutions with the skills needed to compete globally.
February 8 through Mach 2, Ross held its 11th annual in-store fundraiser, Help Local Kids Thrive—inviting customers to donate at checkout & support their local club’s Power Hour program. Ross matched all donations, up to $500,000.

HBCU Day 2025
On February 17, 2025, Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County hosted their 3rd Annual HBCU Day at the Leo Goodwin Foundation Teen Center, celebrating Black History Month with a powerful showcase of culture, education, and opportunity. The energy in the room was electric as 177 teens gathered to engage with representatives from Florida A&M University, Spelman College, Florida Memorial University, Alabama State University, and Savannah State University. Florida Blue was also present, offering valuable insights into career pathways and community resources.
Chazriq “Chazam” Clarke, CEO of Chazam Fans and a two-time graduate of Florida A&M University, brought an infectious energy as our host, keeping the crowd engaged and excited throughout the day. His dynamic presence and enthusiasm set the tone for an event filled with inspiration and celebration.
The highlight of the day came when 17 teens received same-day acceptances to Florida Memorial University, an incredible moment that underscored the impact of HBCUs in opening doors for the next generation. Seeing students receive instant validation of their potential was a powerful reminder of why these institutions are so vital.
The event was filled with dynamic performances from Club members and teens from the Lester H. White Club, Leo Goodwin Foundation Teen Center, and Gary Wendt Teen Center. Divine 9 Fraternities and Sororities lit up the room with their iconic step performances, immersing teens in the rich traditions of Black Greek life and showing them the lifelong bonds of HBCU culture.
Our keynote speaker, Davicia Williams, Executive Director of Advancement and Alumni Affairs at Florida Memorial University, delivered an inspiring message, encouraging teens to dream big, embrace their identities, and recognize the power of education. A proud alumna of Florida Memorial University and an Executive Realtor with Elite Realty Partners, Inc., she shared her journey of perseverance and success, leaving a lasting impact on all who attended.
Adding to the excitement, Vice Mayor Dee Ricketts of North Lauderdale presented The City of North Lauderdale Mayor Samson Borgelin and Vice Mayor Dee Ricketts HBCU Book Scholarship, reinforcing the importance of investing in young scholars. The scholarship presentation was a heartfelt moment that emphasized the community’s commitment to supporting the academic journeys of local youth.
HBCU Day was more than just an event—it was a celebration of Black excellence, history, and future possibilities.

Honoring Harold “Hackie” Reitman
It is with extreme sadness to hear of the passing of our dear friend, and board member Harold “Hackie” Reitman, M.D. Dr. Reitman was not only a great leader and dedicated board member for over 30 years but also a loving family man. His commitment to family was as strong as his passion for the community.
