HEALTH & PHYSICAL EDUCATION COORDINATOR
GENERAL FUNCTION:
The Health & Physical Education Coordinator is directly responsible to the Program Manager. His/Her areas of responsibility are centered on specific program components as indicated in the Job Description. In the absence of the Club Director and Program Manager, he/she may assume full responsibility for the operation of the Club.
KNOW HOW:
TECHNICAL:
- Interpret goals and objectives of the Boys & Girls Club
- Play, publicize, organize, and conduct activities, tournaments, leagues, special events, etc.
- Prepare written plans for program activities including goals, mechanics, needs, and cost projection
- Basic knowledge of emergency First Aid and CPR
- Knowledge of developmental stages and their relations to programming
- Knowledge of sports, game theories, and rules

MANAGERIAL:
- Support Club Director in implementing all areas relevant to the three core program areas. (1) Academic Success; (2) Good Character and Citizenship; and (3) Healthy Lifestyles
- Supervise, train, and motivate staff and volunteers
- Present a professional image to the community
- Utilize program evaluation and activity forms
- Plan, delegate, and follow up on projects
- Think creatively in the development and implementation of new programs

JOB SEGMENTS:
- Assist Club Director and Program Manager in planning and organizing the program of the Club.
- Make periodic reports to the Program Manager and Club Director
- Maintain Bulletin Board for areas of responsibility and post general health and hygiene related information
- Stimulate interest and participation in Community Events
- Assist in training of Club staff
- Assume management of facility in the absence of the Club Director and Program Manager (if directed to do so)
- Recommend and requisition supplies for area of responsibility
- Provide leadership in the development of new programs
- Assist in special projects as the need arises (i.e. fundraising, Summer session, and other organization sponsored Special Events)

SPECIFIC AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY FOR SUPERVISION AND DEVELOPMENT:
- Plan, organize, publicize and conduct (if necessary) programs in the Health, Physical Education Department.
- Organize all league activities.
- Organize and conduct scheduled skills clinics for all major sports.
- Conduct rules clinics for coaches and officials.
- Recruit, supervise, and train volunteers for physical department and other areas of responsibility.
- Organize and supervise playground activities.
- Assist in the conduct of summer session if so assigned.
- Assist Club Directors and Program Managers in special event planning and programming.
- Plan, promote, and conduct physical department special events monthly.
- Assume responsibility for the Club if so assigned.
- Manage all grants and deliverables relevant to the Club.
In addition to the specific professional job duties, the Health & Physical Education Coordinator must possess the ability to:
- Access facility needs and perform janitorial duties, mopping, cleaning walls, bathrooms, etc.
- Perform minor maintenance: change light bulbs, ceiling tiles, hanging posters, painting, and sports equipment.
- Move throughout activity area without disrupting youth traffic flow and activities.
- Perform CPR and First Aid techniques.
- Handle a variety of tasks at one time correctly.
- Recognize and react quickly to problems, challenges and quickly stop undesirable activity (arguing, fighting, horseplay, etc.).
- Supervise activity either inside or outside.
- Assist children with homework.
- Work in any department within the Club on an emergency basis, especially the game room at an acceptable performance level to maintain a safe environment.
- Drive organization vehicles, such as 15 passenger vans, buses, etc.
- Manage Club Finances to understand and work within department budgets.
- Communicate in person, on the telephone and in print.
- Take members on field trips and provide direct supervision of assigned members at places like museums, zoos, waterslide parks, Lion Country Safari, etc.
- Work in non-air conditioned or heated facilities and provide supervision on outdoor playgrounds.
- Immediately correct safety concerns, (water on floor, equipment not stored correctly, doors left unlocked, etc.)
- Answer telephone and communicate with caller in a professional and effective manner.
- Pick up needed supplies from stores and bring to Club.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must possess at least a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science or related field from an accredited institution required.
- Minimum of one year experience working with children in a full-time position
- Ability to obtain and maintain current commercial driver’s license (CDL)
- Maintain a safe driving record.
- Ability to interact with diverse personalities, in a non-emotional, non-confrontational manner
- Display tact, maturity, and flexibility always
- CPR and First Aid certification required.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
High energy level required, must be comfortable performing multi-faceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities. Must possess superior interpersonal abilities; ability to get along with diverse personalities at all times displaying tact, maturity, flexibility and professionalism. Good reasoning abilities and sound judgment are also required.
